With parking at a premium in San Francisco,this classic Victorian - in the "Haight - Ashbury District"- received a garage reftrofit beneath the structure.

In order to sample soils at the depth of the garage footings for the investigation we hand sampled in a small atrium between the structures. Protecting both the client's residence and the adjacent residence from settlement risk was a high priority. Very soft soils and a spring beneath the structure further complicated excavation, construction bracing and permanent dewatering issues.
